Thanks to [info]almostwitty, for letting me know that Cincinnati isn't the ONLY city that panics when white stuff falls from the sky. :)

Electronics on the Fritz

  • Jan. 6th, 2010 at 3:31 PM
My heat has been out on my car for over a year now. It would take a few hundred to fix and considering the short winters in Austin, I've opted to not get it fixed.

Of course we're going into a deep cold snap now- good thing I kept all my winter clothes from back East.

The heat at home is now wonky- in that it won't turn off. Finally had to turn on the AC when it got to 85.

Hope my internal state isn't causing problems.

It has SO been obvious at work that we're in Mercury Retrograde. More so than usual - Work-related gobbledigook behind the cut to avoid my entire Flist glazing over in abject boredom... )
Can it be January 15th now? Please?

Meanwhile, we have completed yet another phase of the Cultural Literacy Remedial Program. As of 2 days ago, I have read the entire run of Sandman. I can now look at Zon's user pic and know who the heck it's supposed to be (not just some cute goth chick drinking tea, which is what I originally thought, and wondered why so many people had the same cute goth chick as a user pic). And yes, I loved it. All of it. Next on the agenda? No clue - you'll have to ask Professor 'Yote what he plans to hand me. :) In the meantime, I'm remembering what it's like to just have words to interpret instead of really pretty artwork when I read by delving into the next Kim Harrison book. (And yes, I was literally lost not knowing what to start on next, and 'Yote handed me that book...he's SO smart, it's just what I needed to clean my palate and remember how to read normal set print again). :)

Speaking of Sandman and and Death and really pretty art...I have SUCH talented friends. I hope she doesn't mind, but I HAD to share. :)
Pretty sweet, huh?

Oh, and for those who are sure 'Yote's finally lost all sense of coherence and has totally been given over to cryptic coyote-babble...
Dr. K'Taden Legume of the Church of The SubGenius had a Quintuple Bypass

This is what happens when only one person on his F-list (yep, [info]gothikfaerie, that would be you) besides me has any HOPE of having a clue who he's talking about. Silly canid.
:D

Oh, and speaking of 'Yote - he is now officially hooked into XBox live. RevIrishCoyote, for those who'd like to join him in the defending us all from the Zombiepocalypse.  Yes, I AM that polyamorous, I'm totally aware he's going to be spending a lot more quality time with his OSO (aka his Electronic SO, the XBox). :) It's okay. I share. LOL

And finally...PSA directed towards my son [info]vermithrx (as revealed to me by my dear friend [info]bodhifox - someone you should really meet one of these days, and should *totally* friend here if you haven't yet...)
It's YOUR YEAR, my son

Make the most of it.
I believe in you.

When you wake up, what's the first thing you think about? What's the last thing you think about before you fall asleep? Are they the same?

This is going to sound SO incredibly sappy, but it's absolutely 100% true.

The last thing I think about before I fall asleep is how utterly happy I am being curled up next to my Beloved, with my arm tucked under his, in my "happy place".

Every time.

And the first thing I think upon waking? Assuming I haven't had some dream I need to shake off (which is a fairly rare occurrence, but it *does* happen), I ask him "15 more minutes?", smile as he mumbles his assent, and then I reset the alarm...and sigh with happiness as I cuddle close and he tucks my arm back under his and pulls me even closer so we can enjoy a few more moments of our "happy place" before we have to get ready to face the day.

Every time.

And that said, I think I'm going to go do just that. :)

Protecting My Bitterness...Why?

  • Jan. 5th, 2010 at 10:40 AM
Many, many thanks to [info]layla_aaron for sharing this link on her LJ. The article is about why people protect their bitterness.

*blink*

It really dovetails a LOT with what I posted about last night regarding allowing people to have power over me.

Today I find I'm moving from feeling powerless, to wondering just why I've allowed others to HAVE such power over me, and that article had some interesting insights.

I usually try to stay in El Mundo Bueno, and usually live there quite happily (which manifests in uncanny ways sometimes - like that +2 to my saving throw). But I've been allowing myself to wallow, and stew, and wonder, and obsess on things that just have no bearing in my life anymore.

Time to put on the big girl panties, figure out what ties I haven't had the courage to cut (and why), and then do it.
Move on already.

New Year- New Room

  • Jan. 5th, 2010 at 12:05 AM
I was amused to find one of my first posts of 2009 was in improving my bedroom.

http://emeraldliz.livejournal.com/367964.html

Now I'm at it again. I'm happy to say that I did indeed purchase a bakers rack, and had it painted white, and it's 90% assembled. Unfortunately I'll need some more stuff to finish assembling and other than a massive closet re-org, I haven't done much with the room at all.

But I'm ready to approach it fresh and have these ideas. Opinions?

The desk http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30069917

Simple, fitting for my left-handedness and an extra shelf is always handy.

Nightstand/File Drawer http://www.target.com/Coastline-3-Drawer-File-White/dp/B000MRD5A8/sr=1-3/qid=1262645714/ref=sr_1_3/184-4484869-3044603?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&rh=k%3Acoastline&page=1

Sadly the match to my existing nightstand is no longer available, but I felt this was a nice piece and I definitely need a file drawer for all of my grown up papers to be organized. Two stons with one piece.

The bedding http://www.ajmoss.com/croscill/isabella-white-croscill/

Now this all looks white, but remember the main centerpiece is silver and there will be silver soft accents everywhere. I don't want an antiseptic feeling, just a cool modern sensuous one.

Note To Self...

  • Jan. 4th, 2010 at 9:37 PM
A very dear friend just pointed this out to me.

It's not like I don't know this, but I apparently needed the reminder.

You are worried about someone who has no power.

Only what you give others, can they hold over you.

Remember that, self.
Take a deep breath, and stop worrying so much.

Duly  noted.

Nothing to see here...

2010 resolutions

  • Jan. 3rd, 2010 at 12:02 PM
I actually have a couple of goals for this year....but like I mentioned before, I've already got them scheduled and in the works....

SFC ....start monthly or every-other-month socials  - already scheduled for january
Women's spiritual circle ...start   - already scheduled for tomorrow night
Slave chat for House Metta - already scheduled for january

Try tribal belly dancing - paying for classes tomorrow
Weekend meditation retreat - paying for tomorrow

M/s weekend event
Published in a Pagan magazine
1st book published
lose 30 more pounds

I'm sure I'll come up with some more.....and I still have one fantasy that eludes me that I'd like to make happen. ;)

But the main one is to figure out the next part of my journey. What is my goal with going to school? What do I plan to use it for? I think I've come close to making this decision. But, my main goal is figuring out the game plan.

Except...not.

I've decided to discontinue this series, for a number of reasons.

I still think there is value in what the author is saying, and *I* can generally see her where she's going (and what she's trying to say)...but I'm finding her language and choice of examples are becoming a bit "out there" myself. And it seems to be more of a source of something to argue about than anything that's actually doing anybody any good.
And I don't need *that* drama on my LJ.

If I find another source of this information that works better, I'll start a new series.

And for those who've found it helpful, you can subscribe to the mailing list directly:

Aerospace and defense veteran Amanda Simpson has been appointed to the Department of Commerce as a senior technical adviser.

Simpson, who is transgender, will be working in the Bureau of Industry and Security.

"I'm truly honored to have received this appointment and am eager and excited about this opportunity that is before me," she said in a press release by the National Center for Transgender Equality, an organization for which she has served on the board of directors. "And at the same time, as one of the first transgender presidential appointees to the federal government, I hope that I will soon be one of hundreds, and that this appointment opens future opportunities for many others."

Simpson was most recently the Deputy Director in Advanced Technology Development at Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Arizona. A flight instructor and test pilot, Simpson also holds degrees in physics, engineering, and business administration.
